Materials Characterization Facility

Overview of Services

The Materials Characterization Facility (MCF) is a core research facility within the Center for Sustainable Energy at Notre Dame (ND Energy). The facility provides world-class equipment and instrumentation to support scientific advancements of new or improved sustainable energy technologies and systems, as well as the characterization and synthesis of any new materials. Characterization capabilities exist for general materials, surface, crystallographic, photovoltaic, electrochemical analysis, trace molecules detection, rheometry, dynamic mechanical testing, and tribology.

The MCF welcomes users from Notre Dame, other academic institutions, and corporate partners.

The MCF’s mission is to provide researchers with high quality data, driving every aspect of the MCF, including its major goals to provide excellent training, customer service, education, and instrument acquisition.
